P90X, How I got here
This being my first blog post, I thought it would be good to tell you about how I got here. I have been small and petite my whole life, never really worrying about my weight. Over the years, I worked out on a fairly regular basis, even after I had kids, but I eventually let life get in the way of working out and I started going to the gym less and less. I did manage to get most of the baby weight off after childbirth, as I went through sporadic periods of exercise in my 30’s but I was never happy with my weight or how I looked in a bathing suit. Then I hit 40.
I had heard people talk about it, but never bought into the theory that things change when you hit 40. Not me, I’m different, I’m petite, I can eat what I want and not gain much, I won’t fit into “that” category. Well, surprise, surprise! It was like some weird kind of karma biting me in the butt. Three pounds up, two down, five up, one down and on and on it went. By February 2010, I was up 15 pounds from my post baby weight. I could no longer wear the jeans in my closet or even get them past my thighs. I bought one pair of larger jeans and had one pair of pants with an elastic waist band and lived in those for the next few months. By that point I was so disgusted with myself I couldn’t stand it anymore. My husband and I decided to do something about it, since he was in the same boat, minus two pregnancies and we started Body For Life, a book that we had on our shelves at home.
Body for Life is about as boring and repetitive a program you will find on the market. It didn’t motivate me, but I pushed on because I knew that I needed to keep doing something, if I was going to see results, but we both wanted something more. One day, while I was at my daughter’s ballet school, another mom asked me if I’d ever heard of P90X? I had not, but was intrigued, as she told me more about the program. When I got home that night, I told my husband about it and we looked it up on You Tube. There it was, story after story after story of how Beachbody and P90X completely changed people’s lives. Young people, old people, mostly overweight people, and just plain out of shape people, people like me.
I had never bought into anything that was sold on an infomercial before or been swayed by those “before” and “after” stories. I guess you can say I had been sort of a skeptic. But something was different here. I don’t know if it was my desperation to not be this way anymore or the “real” feeling I got from watching other people’s P90X transformations, but I was hooked. We ordered our P90X and haven’t looked back since.
The P90X Difference
It has now been over a year since I started my first round of P90X and I am about to complete my third round. It is clear to me that the thing that made the difference were three simple words. Decide, Commit, Succeed. It may sound silly to some but in truth, this was all I needed to do and it is exactly what I did. My husband and I prepared our home, scheduled our workouts on the WOWY Super Gym and started the program. We both loved it, Tony Horton was funny and still is, the people in the videos are real people and the program is fun and challenging! It is definitely different than any other program I had followed.
Everyday, Tony kicked my butt, kept telling me to just keep pushing play and by the end of my first round I had dropped those 15 pounds, tossed the bigger clothes and had to buy new clothes because my old ones (that were too small before) were now huge! I had muscles and definition that I didn’t have in my 20’s and 30’s, even though I was exercising back then. The bottom line, I was missing the proper tools and P90X gave them to me through Beachbody.
Taking it to the next level
Today, I not only do P90X, I also do many other Beachbody programs from trainers like Shaun T and Chalene Johnson. Beachbody reminded me how important fitness has been in my life and offered me a new beginning and a new lifestyle. Late last year, I decided to become an Independent Team BeachBody Coach with the goal of helping others achieve their health and fitness goals. It has not only been rewarding for me but it has been life changing for the people I work with. On top of it all, Beachbody has helped me discover a new career and the opportunity to create financial independence.
This blog is another opportunity for me to help others learn about Beachbody and the opportunity’s they present. Obesity has become a national epidemic and the only way we can do anything about it is to help educate people about their choices in fitness and nutrition. Being an Independent Team Beachbody Coach gives me the tools to make a difference and that‘s why I support their products and programs. If you want to make a difference in your life, I invite you to contact me and see how you can get involved. In the meantime, I hope you will find my site helpful and relevant and if you like want you see, you are welcome to join me on my journey.
